Multi-media

Full text courses come with a multimedia suite. Here are some helpful facts about our multimedia resources.

It will take some time before every course is fully populated with every type of multimedia. To find out what multimedia resources exist at any given time, visit the Wiki, go to "Download section" and select the "Multimedia Inventory."

To purchase or order multimedia, under "Resources" (top right of the home page) select "Vineyard Biblical Institute" and you will be taken to the relevant section.

There are the following types of media.

  • DVD hardcopy disks
  • Quick Time video files
  • Flash files
  • Power Point files
  • Mp3 files

Helpful information about these media types is as follows:

DVD videos are high resolution, suitable to show on larger screens. The files are too large for internet download. They can be ordered from our distributors: Vineyard Resources USA, Vineyard Music UK, VBI South Africa.

Quick Time videos are the same lectures, but the videos have been compressed to make them small enough for internet download. An average DVD file for a 45 minute lecture will take up to 2.4 Gb. The same file in Quick Time format (.mov) will be .4 Gb. This means they are good for viewing on a computer screen, but will be too grainy to view on a large screen. It means they can be downloaded, but as downloads go, they are still fairly large. Those with data limitations may want to think before they download a set. So for instance, the set of lectures by Derek Morphew on Hebrews come to 2.5 Gb (2620 Mb).

Flash files (.swf) are "talking power points". Through "record narration" the voice recording has been recorded into the power point, so that the voice and slides run together. These files are designed to be viewed inside a browser (e.g. Chrome, Internet Explorer or Mozilla). If you download them onto your hard drive, you will have to first open your browser and then select the file (file/open) to view and listen to it. All the files in our help menu under "View and Listen" are flash files. They are quite economical in size. For instance, the 6 lectures by Derek Morphew on Hebrews come to 92 Mb (.08 Gb).

Power Point files are graphics only. They are exactly the same graphics as on the Flash files, and are suitable for class teaching, where the teacher wants to draw on the resource, but to do the teaching themselves. The same set of 6 lectures on Hebrews comes to 5.23 Mb.

Mp3 recordings are suitable to be downloaded onto a mobile device, such as an Ipod or mobile phone. The same set of recordings for Hebrews come to 77 Mb (.073 Gb).
